Do you, do the do?
We already know plus-size women have huge problems when it comes to finding clothing that fits. Luckily for them there are a whole host of retailers and resources around to make life that little bit easier.
But what happens when it comes to choosing a hairstyle?
Just like clothing there are certain styles that suit some, and others that don’t. A hairstyle should complement the shape of your face and frame to make the most of your best assets. For example if you think your eyes are one of your best features, you wouldn’t want to choose a style with a long choppy fringe, because this will only hide your eyes. The number 1 rule to stick to when deciding on a new hairstyle is to always allow the style you pick to become a reflection of your personality. So many plus-size women overlook the importance of a great hairstyle. It can literally change a person! Experiment with colour and styling products to make the most your Barnet.
If you don’t like your bum or your boobs or your hips, then creating a stylish and suitable everyday hairstyle is the perfect way to boost your confidence!
Short styles are generally preferred amongst larger women. The main reason being it accentuates your neck and collar bone, these both being relatively slim parts of the body. Any style from the neck up will automatically slim down your face and elongate your neck.
Women with angular facial features will benefit from soft, sweeping styles. This especially affects those with a larger forehead, pointed chin or high cheekbones. Choose a natural looking hairstyle such as a layered-bob or a style with a fringe. Not only will this alleviate your angular features it will also soften your overall look making your feel more feminine.
If you think you’ve got a fuller, rounded shape face it’s a good idea to select a style with layers. This will add texture and height. Balance out chubby cheeks by creating a style with movement and flair.
If your hair’s long and you want to keep it that way then don’t worry, longer hair can work for plus-size women. The key point to stick to is never allow a long hairstyle to become a curtain, hiding your face and your personality. Leaving your hair to grow may seem youthful but the older you become the more attention your hair needs. Remember to regularly get your hair trimmed, at least every six weeks. Experiment with hair accessories and pinning your hair up for formal occasions.
Scarves are an excellent tool for revamping an old style. Wrap around your hair line, pushing the hair out of your face, then tie at the back to leave part of the scarf hanging down over one shoulder. This style can work so well with a range of different outfits from smart to casual. Accessories are also an easy and cheap way to add a splash of colour and excitement to your overall look.
If you’ve still no idea as to which style to choose why not ask your hairdresser for their advice. Hairdressers are not trained in cutting hair alone, you’ll find they hold a library of hints and tips to make the most of your hair and your style. So don’t be afraid to ask!
