Mallissa Jones

Two Unwanted Records for Malissa Jones

After being named as  Britain’s fattest teenager, Malissa Jones, 21, tipped the scales at 34 stone just two years ago. She then had the record as  becoming the youngest person in the world to have stomach bypass surgery.

Now weighing eight stone (two and a half of which is excess skin) Malissa was diagnosed with anorexia late last year and was told she could have as little as six months to live.

Talking on today’s This Morning, Malissa  said that the story started when she was two years old when parents gave her chocolate etc to keep her happy, then at the age of 7 her parents split up and she found this very emotional .

After this her weight piled on her and although her mother tried to stop her from eating junk food and gave her salads  during the weekend her father would go back to the bad habits.

At 16 and 34 stone her relationship with food had a bad impact on not just her weight but her health .

Eating 15,000 calories a day – she ate at one time 10 Mars bars a day.

In and out of hospital suffering from Angina attacks, she had a machine to keep her alive  at night and  couldn’t walk around as she found it exhausting.

She went on diet pills thinking that these would take care of the fat she ate but this wasn’t the case.

Doctors decided that a Gastric Band wouldn’t be the best scenario and decided to give Malissa a Gastric Bypass as if she didn’t lose weight she could have died. In 2008 she gained the record as becoming  the youngest person ever to have undergone this operation.

In the first month alone she lost 7 STONE in weight and went from one phobia for eating food to one not eating food and in fact decided she didn’t want to eat at all.

The thing she said was the fact that she regrets having the operation and wish she had taken her chances with being large.

Her weight at the lowest point went down to 6 1/2 stone andyet again was told if this didnt improve she was told she would have been dead within six months.

Malissa now has a boyfriend and actually was pregnant but due to her illness lost the baby, Harry, at six months.

She is absolutely determined to get herself better for Harry if nothing else. However with her partner she now has direction. Some days are good and some days are bad but the former are increasing.

Her problem with  food is that of emotion – from her early age food was used to cover up emotional issues.

As they say food can be a drug – the more or less you eat depending on the frame of mind can have effects.

As the creator of 100% People I have for many years stated that food is nearly always the result NOT the cause. I also think once people really take this on board then changes can be made.

At 100% People we wish Malissa all the best for the future.
