Red Wine May Curb Fat Cells

People have been saying for years that red wine can protect the heart and prolong life. However, now a new study is suggesting it may also be a weapon against obesity.

The compound present in grapes that appears to inhibit the development of fat cells and have other anti-obesity properties is called Resveratrol. According to researchers in Germany Resveratrol also hinders fat storage in cells.

“Resveratrol might help to prevent development of obesity or might be suited to treating obesity”

The compound also reduced production of certain substances that may be associated with obesity-related disorders like diabetes and clogged coronary arteries.

Pamela Fischer-Posovszky who is the lead author of the study, has said “Resveratrol has anti-obesity properties by exerting its effects directly on the fat cells… Thus, Resveratrol might help to prevent development of obesity or might be suited to treating obesity.”

The decision to include more red wine to your daily diet must be balanced against other health risks such as alcohol addiction, alcohol related accidents and other fatal medical problems.

However, recent studies do support the idea of drinking a small amount of alcohol each day — no more than one to two servings, though the findings don’t apply to everyone.
