Long Tall Sally enters the US market

Leading tall fashion retailer Long Tall Sally is stretching across the Atlantic to acquire the rival brand Tall Girls.

The British chain, promoted by Lisa Butcher, star of TV’s What Not To Wear, is buying an estate of 10 shops in Canada and the Tall Girls online business in the US. It is not buying the brand’s retail outlets in the US. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

The businesses it has picked up generate sales of about $15m (£9.4m), with Canada now accounting for a third of the tall group’s sales. Turnover is likely to be boosted when the Tall Girls US website relaunches.

The operations on both sides of the Atlantic are expected to be combined, providing the opportunity to introduce the Long Tall Sally brand into the US and Canada.

Long Tall Sally is owned by Amery Capital, an investment vehicle that was founded in 2004 by Maurice Helfgott, former head of menswear at Marks & Spencer.
