History made at the healthcare reform debate

On the final day of National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance‘s (NAAFA) 40th anniversary convention, history was made. Joint teams from NAAFA and Association for Size Diversity And Health (ASDAH) descended upon the Capital meeting with more than 30 representatives and congress persons from 12 states and the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) bringing their message of anti-size discrimination and Health at Every Size to the healthcare reform debate.

Key members of health reform committees met with NAAFA members and were presented with materials and statistics to aid in the understanding of these monumental issues.

Lisa Tealer, Director of NAAFA Programs stated that, “Our reception was overwhelmingly positive. The congresspersons and representatives committed to making sure that our message remains front and center during the healthcare reform debate. This is a monumental day for both organizations.”

Founded in 1969, NAAFA is a non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support.
