Curvy is in

It would seem that body image desires are shifting. A New York University study has found that in a depressed economy, men go for meatier women.

While men are worried about losing their jobs, they’re looking for something to hold onto. Finally, this grey economic cloud officially has its silver lining, thanks to the recent study. Their findings confirmed that when times are lean, men tend to describe their ideal mate as “extra fatty!”

There is a direct cultural correlation between the size of the perfect woman and a man’s appetite. “In wealthy cultures, thin women are preferred, and in poorer cultures, heavier women are preferred,” Dr. Nelson explains. Now, as we face the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression, plus size Beth Ditto is naked on the cover of media conglomerate Conde Nast’s new magazine, Love.  British BBW, Adele, just ruled at the Grammy Awards. Voluptuous sex symbols like America Ferrera and Sara Ramirez are ruling television.  While the bottom is falling out of the economy, well-rounded women are truly gaining weight in our culture. Curves are back and bigger than ever!

At this discovery, it seems that the fashion chains are finally aware of the fact that the average size woman is now a 14 and something needs to be done to cater for this. Super-curvy singer, Beth Ditto recently made an impression with her nude Love cover and is planning a plus-size clothing line for Evans. And she’s not alone, now American mega chain; ‘Forever 21’ is tapping into the plus-sized market with a new clothing line set to debut in May called Faith 21.

The collection is wisely aimed at targeting the often ignored “average” sized woman. The Faith 21 collection will be similar to Forever’s mix of standard runway inspired wear and club wear, but available in XL, 1X, and 2X sizes. If you can’t wait till then, take a look at Evans new range of plus size jewellery, it won’t cost the earth either.
