Posted July 5, 2011 Britain’s Next Top Model is back – and this time judge Julien Macdonald promises he’ll take fat models seriously!
An article in the Mail Online by Deborah Arthurs states that Julien Macdonald caused outrage last year when he claimed that fat models were ‘a joke’. But this year infamously outspoken Britain’s Next Top Model judge Julien Macdonald insists he’s softened up.
The Welsh designer made the controversial comments in an interview during the last series of the modelling contest, saying that a plus size model should not win the competition.
Macdonald, who has an OBE for services to fashion, said in an interview at the time: ‘This is a serious show. A catwalk model is a size six to eight.
You can’t have a plus size girl winning – it makes it a joke.’
Our question is why would it be a joke to have real women on the catwalk !!
However the article goes on to say that that ‘The calibre is much better this time, there are girls on there who really can be top models I think it should be called Britain’s Next Real Model because the girls we’ve chosen are real girls’
