The Perils of Eating Disorders

Posted October 26, 2011 With the population getting larger and people being bombarded with fad diets it is important to realise what these can do to your body.
We are told daily about what the effect weight can have but it seems that dieting can have even worse effects by causing osteoporosis.
Having watched a good friend go through this over the past four years anything that we can do to help others from suffering this chronic and very painful illness is important.
Yesterday the Duchess of Cornwall talked about the anquish of her mother’s illness and at Clarence House met others who are sufferring as we speak
Here is a young woman storyas detailed by the Daily Mail
“I’m 31 but now have the bones of a woman twice my age
A bright, successful businesswoman, Katie Bancroft has been told her osteoporosis was hugely exacerbated by her youthful crash dieting.
At the Clarence House meeting she explained why she believes the Duchess is so right to highlight the long-term danger of eating disorders in young people and how a healthy diet has helped to turn her life around.
Miss Bancroft, 31, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, pictured right with the Duchess, said:

You wouldn’t think it to look at me, but crash dieting has left me with the bones of a woman twice my age.
In fact just three years ago my specialist told me that unless I cut down on my partying and stopped starving myself, I would be confined to a wheelchair in 20 years’ time due to my chronic osteoporosis”
