Six Top Tips for Dressing for a First Date if you’re Curvy

100percentpeople are pleased to welcome Amy Reynolds as a guest contributer and here is her first set of helpful tips when dressing for a first date, something I think all of us whether curvy or skinny have trouble with!!!

A beautiful hour-glass or curvy shape is classically feminine, but it can be difficult to dress sometimes because you either run into the problem of looking way too sexy or downright frumpy.  And if you have a first date, this might only add to the stress you experience when it comes to storming the shops for a flattering outfit.

To pick a flirty ensemble that makes you feel good, you will not only ensure that you have fun on your date, but your guy will be a goner as soon as he lays eyes on you.  Remember to keep these guidelines in mind when choosing an outfit to show off your curvaceous figure:

Evaluate your physique.  This is the first step in picking a show-stopping, head-turning outfit.  What kind of shape are you exactly?  Would you like to highlight or lowlight certain aspects?  If you have any areas you’re not so comfortable with (like every woman does, no matter what her size!) that’s where the wonderful invention of Spanks come in.  Pick some up if needed and these lovely little undergarments can tighten your bod and make any outfit look all the hotter!

It’s all about the fit.  When raiding your closet pre-date, keep in mind a few key items:  Clothes should follow the contour of your figure in medium-weight knits and soft fabrics that accentuate your waistline.  It is also helpful to go a size up than what you normally would wear to get an appropriate length and width—just make some minor alterations to customize the ensemble and you’ll be ready to dash out on the town.  Some flattering silhouettes perfect for a curvy body type are wrap dresses, sheaths, belted shirtdresses and full skirts.

Use slimming techniques.  To look slim and sleek, be sure to wear dark colors and small prints like florals.  Try a monochromatic outfit, keeping the same color theme throughout.  It also doesn’t hurt to reveal a little skin—either cleavage or legs.  However, if you want to avoid looking like a streetwalker, choose one or the other—never both.  Lower necklaces are prime for a fuller-figured body…find these in your wrap, off-the-shoulder, V-neck or strapless get-ups.

Elongate.  If you don’t have the height of a runway model, not to fret.  You still have the ability to dress as fabulously as they do and lengthen what you’ve got.  Great options for doing this are as follows:  Try a vest or cardigan that has a long V-neck, go for an empire waistline or a fitted blouse, and long sleeves or sleeveless styles give the appearance of longer arms.  If your arms happen to be on the larger end of the spectrum you can try kimono or bell-shaped sleeves to minimize their size.  Do you crave legs that look like they go on and on?—Achieve this by wearing some high-waisted pants.  A great first date look that is ultra-sexy and glamorous is wearing a long, silky blouse that is slightly unbuttoned.

Utilize accessories.  Accessories not only complete an outfit but they also can help to balance out body proportions when used correctly.  To cinch in your waist, giving you a smaller appearance, pair a thin belt the same color as your top with a blousy or button up shirt.  Also go for shoes that are the same color as your outfit, avoiding any round toed styles—instead, opt for a pointy toe with a kitten heel.  Tall heels also work well in lengthening your legs and unleashing your inner diva.  If the season allows, knee-length boots are a perfect choice and can look super chic when paired with a dress.

Some major no-nos.  There are some fashion trends that are really hot right now, however, some might not be best for a woman of fuller proportions.  A perfect example being the skinny jean.  Instead, you should stick to a wide leg or flared cut because they balance out the hips better than the skinnies do.  Also, don’t jump on the Boho-oversized look…this can look a bit sloppy.  Avoid excessive fabrics, striped prints and high-necklines.

If you stick to these tips, remembering to have fun and exude confidence, you are sure to pick a stunning outfit and have a successful first date!
