Plus Size Clothing Boutique: Trentacosta.

Plus Size boutiques are on the up and coming, especially online where usually we would have just came across the designs in department stores, it now seems they are making their presence known on the web. And, to be honest – it is perfect timing, the plus size community has been reaching out about the lack of clothing options and diversity within this particular range of fashion and it seems there is a growing range on the market.

The designer I have come across is US based but I believe their website is being developed so you never know, it may go international and I don’t see why it shouldn’t, as the designs presented on their website really do offer diversity, practicality and at affordable prices.

I introduce to you Trentacosta, designs by Darren Trentacosta, who creates his fashion line based on contemporary and “rule breaking” designs that really deliver on style and comfort.  The unique aspect of this designer is the way in which the clothes fit.

“Most plus size manufactures use a sizing system that is a combination of 2 sizes, such as 14/16, or 1X…giving a more roomy or lose fit. We take a more designer approach, using a standard fit model, size 18W, to create our garments. Sometimes going through as many as four fittings per garment to perfect the fit. From that we take out the added bulk by cutting a higher armhole, a sharper shoulder area, lots of darts and seams to shape the garment and have it glide over a woman’s curves. All this combined with higher quality fabrics gives the garment it’s shape and look.”

You can buy his designs online at his website but there is not a huge array of clothing at the moment but what he has got is beautiful and perfect for work. He is definitely the one to look out for in the future and with all his experience I expect there will be much more to come!

I love the approach that Darren has taken towards designing for the plus size market; fashion should be indulgent yet practical, it should make you feel whole when wearing it and fill you with confidence – I think he has encompassed this and more and I definitely hope to see more, especially online!
