Lets be realistic…New Years or not
An article by Sarah
Posted January 15, 2009 For many, 2009 brings with it New Year’s resolutions of losing weight, eating healthier, and exercising more.
These are all great ideas and wonderful for increasing your overall health and well-being, however, many individuals set unrealistic objectives.
Let’s take, for instance, eating healthier as one of your goals for 2009. Instead of ridding your cupboards of all those items you intend to stop eating and filling them with fruit and veg, take it one step at a time. Change only one eating habit, for example, introduce one piece of fruit or veg each day. It typically takes about 21 days for a new eating behaviour to become habit. Once you have accomplished your first goal, move onto the next.
The key to achieving your final objective (eating healthy, exercising more, or losing weight) is to make a list of smaller “mini-goals” that you feel you can achieve each month and will eventually lead to your final objective. Write down your goals and display them in a place where you can review them each day. Cross out, highlight, or check off each goal as you accomplish it. This will give you a feeling of accomplishment and allow you to see your progress towards your ultimate objective. Remind yourself that small changes in your lifestyle habits and behaviours will build up over time to create a huge impact on your health.
