At 100% People, we are always trying to bring you a comprehensive and well rounded resource that you will find useful and that you can visit again and again. So today I thought I would cover a subject about Fat Acceptance, I would really like everyone’s opinion on this topic as it is still a controversial subject that has many perspectives.
Fat Acceptance is something I am always reading about; it is a complex subject and one which takes a lot of consideration but primarily it is about your own individual size. In my opinion, Fat Acceptance isn’t associated with unhealthy connotations, it is about the acceptance of self at a weight you feel the happiest in.
We follow many blogs covering fashion and lifestyle for the plus size, one of which is Young, Fat and Fabulous; abc News recently featured the writer on their program about the Fat Acceptance ”movement”. Research has proven that fad diets are in no way good for your body, worse than obesity can be for your body. This program really made me understand what these women were about, Gabi, the writer of YFF explains the program; “Interview with Gabrielle Gregg on loving your body, even if that body is bigger than societal “standard”.”
I like the way she has explained this interview, society has deemed methods for measuring health, some of which are not accurate, for example Body Mass Index; which doesn’t take into consideration your lifestyle – you can easily be classed as overweight for having muscle or for being very tall. What if you were fat but did take exercise everyday? What does it measure now? Instead the media and society has placed pressure on us to conform to an ideal – those which we regularly see in magazines and on TV; ultimately this leads to depression, overeating, fad dieting and feeling totally inadequate with ourselves.
This is the source of all problems, and I am so glad someone is trying to do something to make everyone realise that health really can be achieved at all sizes.
Please watch this video and let me know what you think, I would really like your comments and if you too would like to share your story or a resource that you have found to be useful then please get in touch.
