5 Top Tips on Dieting

Just some pointers to bear in mind the next time you try a fad diet!

I know your probably not going to want to hear this but those of you that want quick and instant results will not obtain long term weight loss, a diet is about your individual lifestyle and commitment to your health rather than the fad dieting that we all fall for.

It is about finding the right method to make new commitments to improve your health and ultimately lose weight. I know sometimes it may feel like you do this already and it’s not working, so before you give in and revert back to a fad diet for those instant and sometimes smelly results(!) consider these five points:

1. A point I have kind of already made; we start diets that we really know deep down will not work for us. Don’t do it as it will only affect your resolve and self esteem. Forget the quick fix diets.

2. Ok you’ve opened the diet information, prepared the ingredients and suddenly expect your body to love quick fad diets. I don’t think so.. Your body will be shuddering and thinking oh no not again when you offer up 2 celery sticks and cabbage soup. Get a recipe book full of healthy yet yummy recipes, take a look at Channel 4 recipes and BBC Good Food for something inspiring and how to stay full between meals. Short term diets can sometimes make you gain weight as your body doesn’t know when it will be fed again therefore storing fat…we are mammals after all!

3. Planning is the key. If you fail to plan you plan to fail as they say. Formulate a plan that will help you achieve the goals you have set yourself. Even write them down! Check out one of my previous articles; ‘Lets be realistic‘ for advice on setting goals.

4. You could have just chosen the wrong diet plan for you. Always bear in mind just because a famous, stick thin celebrity has lost the majority of her body weight in 48 hours, doesn’t mean you will. Be realistic and remember diet alone won’t work for long, you need to exercise as well. Have a look at this website, full of useful information on how to get exercise into your busy lifestyle.

5. We diet for events and not as a long term life plan. It is no good just losing weight for weddings, christenings or any other social gathering because I know it is a hard fact but life is not one social gathering. Hey if it was we would look great everyday!
