It may seem impossible to loose those last few pounds, especially after all the hard work you have put in or it could be that you want to loose some weight but feel lost at the thought of getting into a new regime. So here are 5 simple strategies to help you attain your weight loss goals without changing what you eat…well, to begin with!
Bear in mind that if what your eating appears to be the cause of your weight then you may need to alter your diet to achieve your goals, but don’t think of it as an impossible climb, and don’t be encouraged to take up fad diets, keep it simple; eat lean meat, eat more fibre as it provides long-lasting fullness and reduce your carbohydrate intake as these food sources trigger hunger quicker.
Okay, so here are 5 simple steps helping you to a better you.
1. First things first: Eat breakfast. Please don’t say you do not have time, if you don’t then make time as this is the most important meal of the day. If you skip it, you will eat more throughout the day. Make it nutritious and filling, like oats, bran, dried fruit and nuts- this will give you the energy to get through the morning and prevent you from grabbing a sugar rush on the way to work.
2. One element that any diet advice will tell you is to drink plenty of water. It will make you feel full, and sometimes what feels like hunger can be just thirst so try sipping on water throughout the day.
3. Try chewing on sugarless gum to occupy your mouth. I do not recommend doing this when your body is telling you, you are really hungry but if you are tempted by your colleague’s biscuit tin then chew some gum, it will settle those cravings and by making your breath minty fresh you won’t want sugar. Brushing your teeth is an alternative to gum. Cleaning your mouth stops the urge to eat afterwards and it is so simple to carry a toothbrush with you everywhere you go. So if you get the urge to overindulge on your lunch break- considering the vending machine, then take your travel brush to the bathroom and clean those teeth!
4. Eat little and often but of the healthy kind. Try eating six small meals throughout the day instead of eating three large meals, this way your metabolism stays high and you will be less likely to eat between meals. Get health snack ideas here.
5. Stay busy and get active; okay so this may sound like two points but they follow the same principle. If you are not doing much with your day and you are bored then this can lead to eating. So instead of being fed up, get active and get out the house and do something with your time. Keeping active is great for your health and mind; join a sports club or start a new hobby – by keeping your mind active too there is less chance of thinking about food.
