Myla Dalbesio,Dubbed The ‘New Crystal Renn’ Admits Throwing Up To Lose Weight
An article by Sarah
Posted January 28, 2012 An article in Grazia on line talks about the issue of plus size models always being a hot topic. And now Myla Dalbesio – who has been dubbed the ‘new Crystal Renn’ – has added to the storm by admitting she was encouraged to lose weight by clients. In a candid interview with Fashionista.com, Myla revealed the extreme lengths she went to, trying to shift the 15 pounds she was asked to lose.
‘I tried throwing up after I ate and that’s awful’, says the 24-year-old American. ‘That is painful – I would never wish for anyone to do that ever. And then I’d go through weeks where all I ate was black olives or pickles because they have no calories and nothing was happening. I wasn’t losing weight, I was spending hours in the gym. I have a really large chest and it’s never going to go away.’
I have to ask the question if someone has to go to these lengths just to be what the media class as perfect surely it would be better to have full representation of body diversity in the media and on the catwalk.
Myla, who has just been shot for Dazed and Confused and Claph Magazine, adds, ‘I think modelling can be so nourishing and creative but there’s also this side that’s so petty and judgmental and dark and disgusting and it’s really hard to deal with that… Either you’re too big or too small – you’re not plus enough.’ So has she got a point?
Crystal Renn as we all know was hailed for being plus size a year or two ago and is now no different to the main stream models. I know it stated that she has lost weight due to exercise and does look stunning but surely before she was a role model for the majority of the main stream populous which equate to the 60% who are size 16 and over.

I understand fully that from a fashion designers perspective it is easier to showcase their garments without any lumps and bumps. But to the woman in the street looking through the magazines and catalogues it must have a negative affect on their self esteem.
