V Magazine to feature Plus Sized Models
Usually renowned for its svelte figures in ready to wear fashion, V Magazine’s first issue of 2010 is set to focus only on plus size models.
Joining the ever growing debate on fashion for plus size individuals, I hope they are not just doing this to get publicity as Glamour did with its feature following all the hype about the image of Lizzie Miller.
“Big, little, pint-size, plus-size — every body is beautiful. And this issue is out to prove it,” says editor, Stephen Gan. Gracing the pages of the edition will be models, both in clothes and nude, photographed by the likes of Terry Richardson, Bruce Weber and Karl Lagerfeld.
Some of the models include Crystal Renn, Kate Dillon, Mia Tyler, Hayley Morley and Whitney Thompson.

Let me know what you think, do you think the fashion industry is finally changing its perspective on style for the curvy woman?
I believe there is a problem with this outwardly good idea. Fashion and celebrity blog Jezebel puts it well: “Much like when Italian Vogue did an ‘all-black issue,’ the flipside of highlighting one kind of model in a ’special’ issue is that they’re actually being segregated, placed in a ghetto, away from the other ‘real’ models.”
More news from the fashion magazines:
Glamour Magazine is continuing in its crusade for the larger lady and as a special way to reward subscribers to the magazine they have produced the ‘Inspiration’ calendar for 2010. Marking a first for the publication, this calendar features some of the most successful plus-size models in fashion, following the magazine’s much-discussed special issue.
