Floral Patterns

You may have noticed that floral patterns are a huge trend at the moment as you can find these on any piece of clothing, from skirts to shoes and dresses. Floral patterns are very colourful and can be worn by anyone who enjoys a bit of colour. The draping of this sleeveless dress includes a stunning floral boarder print and has a back zip which is fully lined. This elegant and modern floral print jersey dress would be perfect for attending a wedding and can also be worn to other special events. In terms of accessories you have to be careful not to over-accessories because of the floral patterns. So, wearing a floral patterned – scarf or “cover up” is not recommended because this might give the look a too many colours and patterns to focus on and might take the eyes off the dress. In terms of shoes, I’d recommend wearing some black pumps. When buying your shoes, make sure the heels are not too high because weddings are special but also long days where you may have to stand on your feet for some hours.

Pencil skirts

Pencil skirts are traditionally associated with office style clothing but are becoming trendier and can therefore also be worn for special occasions. Pencil skirts are becoming widely available for plus size women as many retailers nowadays make some charming skirts for full figured women that showcase them in the most flattering way. I would recommend wearing a pencil skirt if you enjoy a bit of formality whilst at the same time wanting to look sexy. In terms of accessories, some sparkly jewellery may give your outfit an extra touch of glam so don’t be shy when putting on your jewellery. Finally, pencil skirts are known for their tight fit and should therefore be fitted prior to the occasion. Look for one with a kick pleat or backs slit because it is important to feel comfortable.

Make Up

The last big trend for not only weddings but any other occasion is make up. We have seen a lot of trends focussing on smoky eyes in 2011 and I am sad to say that these will disappear for a bit. 2012 is all about colours with a natural looking foundation. For the floral patterned dress, I would suggest wearing a fresh foundation and to apply some colours on your eyes. Choose two colours (purple and dark grey) and apply the lighter shade (purple) closer to the eye with the darker shade (dark grey) around the eye. A great article today in AOL by Jessica Lawrence talks about the fact that Brazilian Women are getting larger and therefore there has been a huge rise in demand for  plus-size swimming costumes and bikinis, as larger women have been left out in the cold when it comes to finding clothes to wear on the beach.

Elisangela Inez Soares, a sunbather on Copacabana beach said: “It used to be bikinis were only in tiny sizes that only skinny girls could fit into. But not everyone is built like a model.”

“Finally, it seems like people are beginning to realize that we’re not all supermodels “ added the mum of four.

“It used to be that people would stare at me. Now when I come to the beach I see women who are much bigger than me – and lots of them are wearing bikinis – so I’m not self conscious any more.”

Brazil held its first ever plus size beauty pageant on the weekend, where contestants modelled bikinis and swimwear on the catwalk.

A study published in 2010 showed nearly half of Brazilian women and 50% of men were overweight.

Fashion designer Clarice Rebelatto said she had so much trouble trying to find something to wear to sunbathe – she is a size 14 – that she decided to create her own clothing line, Lehona.

“Honestly, the problem went way beyond just bikinis. In Brazil, it used to be that if you were even a little chunky, finding any kind of clothes in the right size was a real problem.”

“And I thought, ‘I’m actually not even that big compared to a lot of women out there, so if I have problems, what are they doing?”

The line has proved to be a success and Luis Rebelatto, Clarice’s son and the brand’s director, said they did not compromise on offering larger women the latest styles.

“We’re working from the principle that bigger women are just like everyone else. They don’t want to look like old ladies, wearing these very modest, very covering swimsuits in just black.”

It appears the Girl from Ipanema is no longer lean, but “large and lovely” instead.

Pictures of her modelling the firm’s Valentines collection, below, will be put up in shop windows across Britain next week.

Having reached the final 10 though a careful selection process, Lucy was voted overall winner by members of the public.

She secured 22 per cent of the 30,000 votes cast.

The student of University of Westminster, said: ‘I couldn’t believe it when I won. I screamed – it was just so exciting.

‘I didn’t ever think I’d get this far. I kept looking at the other girls and thinking how beautiful they were. I thought any one of them could win it. The competition was so tough.

‘But I’m happy that I did. Hopefully it will be an inspiration to other curvy girls and give them confidence, no matter what shape or size they are.’

In a bid to help win votes during the final stage of the competition, Lucy made appearances at Ann Summers in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, where she acted as a real-life mannequin, and helped open a new store in Milton Keynes.

Lucy, of Connaught Road, North End, roped in the support of her family and friends through Facebook and Twitter.

Lucy featured in the lingerie firm’s first TV slot, with an appearance on reality show The Only Way is Essex.

Jacqueline Gold, the firm’s CEO, said: ‘The campaign was about finding a real woman who embodied our brand and oozed sexiness and confidence.

‘Lucy really stood out for us and we’re looking forward to showing off our new Valentines collection with Lucy taking centre stage in the campaign and store windows.’

An article in the Daily Mail Online today by Isla Whitcroft talks about one GP who at 22 stone took action and is now a size 12.

Whenever her patients visited GP Lady Arabella Onslow for advice about weight or healthy lifestyle issues, she began the conversation with the same few words.

‘I know how hard this is. But this isn’t about me,’ she would say as she explained the need for regular exercise and smaller portions. ‘This is about you.’

For as she was handing out this lifestyle advice, Dr Onslow was grossly, even dangerously, overweight.

At her heaviest, the 41-year-old weighed 22st.

At 5ft 8in, this gave her a BMI of 46.2 (officially morbidly obese) and put her at high risk of a host of weight-related conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and osteoarthritis — the very same enemies she warned her overweight patients about each day in her NHS surgery in Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria.

‘As a GP you listen to patients with all sorts of problems, and while not all of them are connected with weight, a lot can be — such as breathlessness, bad joints and diabetes,’ says Dr Onslow, whose father was the Earl of Onslow.

‘But when I had to tell a patient they would benefit from losing weight, I felt they were judging me. You could hardly ignore the fact I was obese”

In our view this must have been so hard for the patients – being told one thing but looking at something else.

However after 14 months she now looks like this
