National Food Allergy & Intolerance Week – 21-25 January 2008
Did you know its “National Food Allergy & Intolerance Week”? No?
Well you do now…
Did you know that nearly ½ of the UK population are affected by some kind of food intolerance? And that it can be linked with chronic illnesses such as asthma, eczema, migraines and irritable bowel syndrome.
What is the aim of the Week?
- To provide information and advice about the variety of intolerances and food allergies
- To raise awareness of the different ways to help manage food intolerances
- To promote the distinction between food intolerance and food allergies
- To draw attention to the management of the symptoms
What are the symptoms?
- The first symptoms are often itching and swelling in the mouth, tongue and throat
- Skin reactions such as swelling, itching, eczema and flushing
- Vomiting and/or diarrhoea
- Coughing, wheezing or a runny nose
- Swelling of the lips
- Sore, red and itchy eyes
