Please don't cancel - you have booked an extra seat , which personally I think is terrible, so you shouldnt have an issue. If you have saved up for so long and work so hard why should you change your plans. So stick to your guns and go and have a good time. You say you have put on more weight lately ? Is this due to emotional issues? - Why not tell us you story and then you too maybe able to help others. Take care and have a brilliant time x

Im flying for the first time in several years (and have put a lot of weight on since) I'm flying with Ryanair and was so terrified I wouldn't fit in the seat booked a exta seat at the cost of £70 however I'm still dreading it as I know I will need a extender belt (I did before I piled on more weight) and as I'm 6'4 thinking are they going to refuse me if the plane is fully or over booked! I have saved up for nearly 2 years for this holiday and it's for one of best friends 40th birthdays so don't want to miss it because of Ryanairs unscrupulous reputation. Please don't think I'm some lazy fat slob as I'm not I work 1 full time job and 2 part time jobs with any spare time I have looking after the house and my dog. I have been worrying about this since we booked the holiday 3 months ago and so worried I may actually cancel.

[...] So I decided to look a bit more locally, to give myself a chance of finding someone I have a fair chance of being able to meet up with without getting on a plane (coz you all remember what a pain it was trying to sort out air travel!!). [...]

i've read this with great interest as a big lady myself who likes to travel a bit. i've found american airline companies give you a slightly wider bum space, but by even an slim-sized person's standards (i was going to say normal size but as 'normal' for women is size 16 and above...!), economy seats are cramped.

i am absolutely appalled by the way you were treated - even if being morbidy obese (i don't know how big you are) was a rare thing, you do not deserve to be treated like a freak. even freaks have feelings. it makes me feel sad that you are so resigned to the expense of two seats. okay fair enough they can't fit everyone's backside but people are a bit bigger than they were eve 30-40 years ago when (or whenever) people were a bit smaller.

it's all about the money at the end of the day.

i've had a couple of slightly (and one very) embarrassing experiences on european flights lately (namely thomas cook and ryanair) where the seatbelt fell short of my girth and i had to request an extension belt. the stewardess on thomas cook had no problem with it, she handed it straight to me with a smile.

the sour-faced size fascist on ryanair however not only ignored my request but told me i would have to move seat, as i was sitting in a 'safety seat' in the back row - eh? make sense of that?! my friends and people around me cringed on my behalf and i dared not ask her again for the extender. so i flew without one. hmm, not exactly 'safe'.

sure i'm big but i see people bigger than me all the time. god only knows how bad they are made to feel all the time, i really feel for them.

best of luck.
