Review of Young, Fat and Fabulous Blogger Conference

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I have been looking for a review of the YFF Blogger Conference by a neutral individual for a little while now, I really wanted someone to set the scene for me and provide an insight into what happened. Of all places to find the one I liked, I found it in The Sydney Morning Herald.

Random I know but all the same, it is about readability and honesty than source (sometimes!)

I have borrowed the image from Fashion Hayley who was there on the day, so take a look at the rest of her great pics here.

So here it is, this is what Margit Detweiler reported:

In a midtown Manhattan showroom, fashion blogger Amelia Pontes picked up a pair of “jeggings” (jeans tight enough to be leggings) from a table filled with trendy jeans in boot cut, boyfriend and skinny styles.

Plus Size Retailer, Toula Debuts Fall 2010 Collaboration With Saks Fifth Avenue

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Women’s apparel manufacturer Toula will debut Fall 2010 at retailer Saks Fifth Avenue with an exclusive collection sold through their New York flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

“We’re excited to expand our reach through this partnership and reach a much larger, cosmopolitan audience,” explained Steven Wang, co-owner of the label. “Toula has been available for decades at smaller boutiques, but this distinctive line sold at Saks will reachan entirely new market.”

Saks’ line will be available in plus sizes (14-24), a niche Toula has perfected through years of experience in outfitting plus size women. Forgiving wool and rayon fiber blends lend themselves to curvier women’s shapes and can even be blocked up or down a size to accommodate body fluctuations. The pieces enhance a woman’s natural silhouette with flattering cuts and elegant, understated detailing. The wrinkle-resistant fabrics are ideal for the traveling professional woman with refined taste.

The collection is comprised of separates that can be combined to create complete looks and priced at $1200 to $1600 for an ensemble.Toula has designed and produced versatile and timeless women’s knitwear since 1986. Each collection provides ideal ingredients for a distinct and unforgettable look. With the wardrobe building concept in mind Toula offers women value that allows the silhouettes tobe worn season after season.

Toula knits are sewn with the richest fabrics that are tasteful and accentuate the positive features of any figure. What began as a one-room factory in the home of owners Eddie and Ming Wang has grown into a successful family business, now run by their son Steven Wang. Toula has stayed true to its original mission of creating practical and sophisticated clothing. With the majority of fashion designers not making clothes for everyday people, Toula focuses on mature, professional women and has prospered as a result.

Vintage Inspired Plus Size Dresses from Shabby Apple

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

As I was reading through my email newsletters that scour the plus size and tall fashion industry, I came across my Brickhouse subscription who informed me of a clothing brand I had never heard of before; Shabby Apple. I was enthralled straight away.

The pictures she presents are glorious, 1940’s inspired dresses that I just had to tell you about. After visiting Shabby Apples website, I was making out my wish list. Their designs are inspired by 1940’s chic and the classic French styles. They ship all over the world too!

You must take a look at this unique collection of clothing. I love their ethic and the reason behind why the designs were created;

“After years of not being able to find stylish dresses that covered enough skin to make you really feel comfortable (without wearing a tank top, cardigan or long slip), owners Emily and CK decided to do something about it.
They visited trade shows, marketplaces and designer studios only to discover the problem was not that department stores weren’t buying the right dresses, but that designers weren’t designing them.
Shabby Apple is proud to offer you fantastic dresses that allow you to look fabulous, without having to compromise anything else.”

Visit their shop at www.shabbyapple.com and tell me what you think.

Fabulous Magazine Joins Ultimo Lingerie to Make over 14 ‘Real’ Women

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Read below what Fabulous magazine had to say about the make-over and the motivation behind using ‘real’ women in Ultimo’s new campaign.

“When Ultimo lingerie founder Michelle Mone launched a new range of couture frocks, she wanted 14 ‘real’ women to advertise them. We treated a select few of them to an A-list transformation…

Taking over the first floor of a central London townhouse, a team of make-up artists, hairdressers and stylists is in full swing, getting the models camera-ready. This is a fashion shoot with a difference: today’s models are real women, with real bodies. Aged 20-53, they range from size 8-16 and they all celebrate their shape. The idea is down to Michelle Mone, 38, mum and self-made millionaire, thanks to her successful Ultimo lingerie range.

“We’ve always used celebrities in our campaigns,” she says. “But I get thousands of letters from ladies asking why we don’t use them. And I’m a size 12, with hips, boobs and a bum. I thought: ‘Why not?’”

When Michelle announced this on Facebook in May, she was inundated with applications. She says: “It was hard to select 14 women, but they represent what it is to be ‘real’. They prove you don’t have to be 18 and a size 6 to look glam.” Meet five of the women reshaping our views on body image.”
